School's out for the summer

The sun is shining the weather is sweet!

Before quieting down for the summer one last glance to see what will be waiting when after 71 days of exile from school we get back to work.

At pretty much the final fit it was time to glue on the veneer for the headstock and use the milling cutter to gnaw the slotted headstock to its final shape.

Routings for the headstock bindings and glueing the bindings on.

Meanwhile perfect time to get started on the dovetail joint for the exotic woods bubinga guitar.

Next up the fretboard on the cherry guitar. I chose to glue on the fretboard after working on the headstock to make it easier to make the routings. Some little nails punched through the 1st and 12th fret were used to keep it in place during the fitting and glueing.

Side dots were in order and since I had a side project lying around I decided to make a double date of it.

Some goofy summer vibes must have been circling around the classroom for I took up the offer of a classmate to put glow in the dark dots on the P-bass :)

Saddle routings for the bridges. Strange how it is one of the most difficult things to make a straight line so the bubinga one here is headed for other destinations than a guitar top. Oh well I hear repetition is a good trainer so I'll just do it again. After summer break with a steady and rested touch.

Possibly I could have finished forming the neck profiles before summer break if I would have been a bit more organised but then again I think this is something nice to do in the home office during the summer. It's one of the most relaxing things in guitar building in my opinion.

Sketching the slopes for the headstock slots. Carving those remains to be a good task for a sunny day and a precise luthier to be.

Inspired by the beautiful weather I took the pair of my LGRP guitars in the making out to bask in the sun.

Chill in the forest.

And hang in the swing.

I wish you all a relaxing and sunny summer, enjoy!

ps. I will be at the Ikata stand at the Tampere Guitar Festival Tampere Guitar show June 10th -11th so come say hello if you're around.
