Little big things - LGRP week 20

Dovetails, fretboards, bridges & bridge pins so much to do and so little time.. I kind of wish there was no such thing as summer holiday ;)

I wanted to carve the dovetail joint by hand with chisels and the Japanese saw. First of course the plan needed to be drawn on the body to match its counterpart on the neck. Most of the wood is removed by sawing and chiseling away roughly and then the fine tuning starts to find the perfect fit.

I started this work before the Belgium workshop last week so the fit was getting pretty close already. I was in a good place to continue this week.

It was time to add the bindings to the fretboards and take some material off the neck block to be able to follow the dovetail joint fit closer to its final shape and size. In the pic also blanks for the bridges to be according to the plan of the moment.

What lies under the fretboard? This time there are spots for a double action trussrod and two pieces of carbon fiber (the stuff the guys in world championship hockey finals tonight most likely have in their playing sticks also..)

I thought I had studied the plans well enough to know that a trussrod of 400mm would be just great but I was wrong, it would not reach the proper place for adjustment access. Then I thought oh great I have 440mm also, that'll work...well no such luck, too long. Priceless as classmates are this time one came to the rescue with a trussrod of 420mm and so I am set to finish the first neck next week.

Friday around two in the afternoon I realised I was feeling quite tired in the brain and should not do anymore work that requires concentration nor precision so I entertained myself by playing around with the bridge pins.

Which one is your favourite?

Nothing to do with the LGRP project but had to share this quite awesome piece of veneer! :o)

(I think it will end up on the box for the Uraltone Jr amp I wrote about before)
