As it happens this week monday was quite the productive day for guitar building. Could be it gained momentum from an intriguing interruption in the form of inspecting packages & parts for next weeks amplifier course that came about during the morning. Always good to do something unplanned and out of the ordinary once in a while :)

In the afternoon we then braved the laser with a classmate...

...and got some good jigs out of it.

I also got the routings done for the bindings on the second guitar so a good start for the week!

Naturally the next step was to glue the bindings on. I must say that as expected birdseye maple was a bit stiffer and harder to work with than the walnut bindings I used for the cherry guitar. Luckily there are ways to guide the binding to place neatly even if it is a bit headstrong...

So got the bindings on, cleaned up and sanded everything to be ready to get the neck angles.

Took some time for fingerboard preparation.

This week we had a session about building the bridge. To get started I decided to make a few blanks to test with. Traditionally the same wood is often used that appears on the fingerboard and headstock but let's' see what I will decide on. The wood should be quite hard anyway to be able to bear the strain and pull of the strings.

Friday I got the neck angles sorted and made the first runs with the circular saw to prepare for the dove tail joint...

...which I plan to work by hand this time.

I'll work on the joints evenings next week since like I mentioned we have a visiting lecturer come and show us how to build tube amplifiers, feeling electrified!
